How to Get Tough Stains Out of Your Car’s Interior

After you’ve washed away all of the grime and pollutants from the outside of your car and vacuumed up on the crumbs from the inside of the car, there might be a tough, baked-in stain from a coffee spill or a quick snack you had on your way to work.

Well, the inside of your car should be just as spot-less as the outside of your car. Here are a few of our best tips to get stains out of your fabric surfaces:

Baking Soda Mixture

Mix baking soda with warm water. Use a sturdy brush to work out the stain in a circular motion. You may want to let the solution sit on the stain for a little while as well. Baking soda is especially useful as it is also a deodorizer.

Club Soda Mixture

Pour a small amount of club soda onto the stain and scrub with a sturdy brush in a circular motion.

Vinegar and Soap Mixture

Pour 1 part vinegar and 2 parts warm water into a spray bottle. Add a little dish soap as well. Work the stain and wash away with a small amount of warm water and a clean towel. You’ll want to let your car air dry – this will also allow the vinegar smell to dissipate. Add 1 part alcohol if you have a difficult faux-leather stain.

Purchase a Cleaning Solution

Make sure to verify with your manual what your car’s surfaces are made of and purchase the best professional solution. Stores like AutoZone will be knowledgeable to guide you towards the best solutions for you. Most other options are readily available for free at home, but particularly difficult stains may need chemical solutions.

Difficult stains: Chocolate and Gum

These are notoriously difficult stains to remove. But we have a trick – ice! Freeze the stain and just chip it away. Use one of the methods above to clean any residue once complete.
